Tottenham 2-2 Manchester United

  • Tottenham 2-2 Manchester United: Honours even in thrilling game at White Hart Lane
Spurs led twice on Sunday afternoon, only to be pegged back by one each occasion by in-form Wayne Rooney

  • A thrilling game at White Hart Lane ended all-square as Tottenham and Manchester United shared four goals on Sunday afternoon. The hosts, beaten 6-0 by Manchester City last weekend, twice led through Kyle Walker and Sandro, only to be pegged back by in-form Wayne Rooney on both occasions. The result does neither side any favours, with United remaining in eighth and Andre Villas-Boas' side one place further back.Spurs got their noses in front on 18 minutes after Jonny Evans fouled Paulinho on the edge of the area. Walker took the ensuing free-kick, blasting the ball under the jumping wall and past David De Gea.It almost got even better for the hosts minutes later when Paulinho released Roberto Soldado, but the forward could not keep his shot down. Aaron Lennon then brought a sharp save from De Gea as United wavered. But David Moyes' side struck back against the run of play, Walker going from hero to villain with a horror touch that allowed the alert Rooney to prod into the net.Spurs came out fighting in the second period and regained the lead thanks to a genuine moment of quality from Sandro. The Brazilian surged past Tom Cleverley before arrowing a stunning finish into the top corner of De Gea's net.But again, the lead would not last long. Danny Welbeck was felled by Hugo Lloris, allowing Wayne Rooney to restore parity from the penalty spot.It was to prove the final goal of the game, although not for a lack of attacking intent from either side in the remaining stages. The result leaves United nine points adrift of Arsenal, with Spurs a further point behind.
